Complaint for possible violation of reproduction rights in new Costa Rican bill
Fuente: Daniela Rojas PuszynThe Costa Rican artist Guillermo Cubero recently claimed the unauthorized use of his portrait of Mauro Fernández Acuña, Admirable of Costa Rica; artwork that would be printed in the new bills of 2,000 colones to be issued by the Central Bank of Costa Rica.
Guillermo Cubero’s artwork has been in the power of the National Museum of Costa Rica for over 25 years; therefore, the Central Bank sought permission from that Museum to reproduce the artwork in the new bills.
Guillermo Cubero claims that he has not given up its reproduction rights over the portrait, and as such, its inclusion in the bills issued by the Central Bank of Costa Rica would be a violation of his copyrights. According to the information published in the media, the case could be soon amicably resolved by the parties involved.
